ʻĀkiapōlāʻau are an incredibly unique bird, but one really unusual thing about them is their bimodal breeding pattern. The majority of birds breed in the summer, but a subset of them breed in November. So in honor of those birds aki get the month of November. In this image, I couldnʻt figure out what was agitating the bird, I thought I may be near a nest or something and went to move out of the way when I startled an ʻIo out of a koa tree behind me answering the question of who was cuasing the aki to be so alert.
