ʻIo are Hawaii's only remaining only remaining endemic raptor. Today they can only be found on Hawaiʻi Island, but there is evidence that they also occured on Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, and Maui Nui. ʻIo have been increasingly impacted by humans as habitat loss, invasive species, and conflict with livestock have lead to increases in gunshot wounds across the island.
